When walking the California beaches lined by houses, you get a good sampling of different pathways leading down to the beach. No two forms of beach access are alike. Each house sits a little differently on a slope or cliff, requiring stairs, ladders, or ramps of different lengths or combinations, each designed to match the house's character or owner's preference. As a result, each pathway has its own look and character, made of a variety of building materials and methods, all in various stages of weathering. I love finding the charm in each.
